Ujjain Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga Yatra
A relaxed 4-day pilgrimage to two Jyotirlingas, Mahakaleshwar in Ujjain and Omkareshwar on the Narmada
4 days, from Indore, from ₹17,999 per person
The Ujjain Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga Yatra is a four-day pilgrimage that brings together two of the twelve Jyotirlingas. Ujjain, the ancient Avantika, is the home of Mahakaleshwar, and Omkareshwar sits on an island in the Narmada, shaped like the sacred syllable Om.
The journey covers Mahakaleshwar and the Mahakal Lok corridor, Harsiddhi Mandir, Chintaman Ganesh, Ram Ghat on the Shipra, Kal Bhairav, Sandipani Ashram, Mangalnath, Vedh Shala (Ujjain's old observatory), Omkareshwar, Mamleshwar and the Narmada ghat and parikrama.
The yatra starts and ends at Indore airport or railway station, with two nights in Ujjain and one in Omkareshwar. It keeps to a few stops a day with time to rest, so it suits families, elders and devotees who want a meaningful pilgrimage without a rush. The Bhasma Aarti before dawn is an optional add-on, subject to the temple's online pass.
Spiritual significance
- Mahakaleshwar is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Shiva and the only one that faces south, and Ujjain, the ancient Avantika, is counted among the seven sacred cities (Sapta Puri).
- Omkareshwar is another of the twelve Jyotirlingas, on Mandhata Island in the Narmada, and it is traditionally paired with Mamleshwar on the opposite bank.
- Ujjain's temples cover several traditions in one visit: Shaiva worship at Mahakaleshwar, the Shakti Peetha at Harsiddhi, the guardian Kal Bhairav, and the ashram where Krishna is said to have studied.
- The Shipra at Ujjain and the Narmada at Omkareshwar are both sacred rivers, and pilgrims bathe, pray and watch the evening aarti at their ghats.
- A slow pace, with a free evening each day, helps travellers focus on prayer and reflection instead of hurrying.
