The Kainchi Dham Neem Karoli Baba Yatra is a four-day road trip from Delhi to the Kumaon hills. Its heart is Kainchi Dham, the ashram of the saint Neem Karoli Baba, built in 1964 on the Nainital to Almora road, with its Hanuman temple in a forested valley beside a stream. You also visit the Naina Devi Temple, a Shakti Peetham on the shore of the Naini Lake, spend an evening by the lake, and a quiet day at Bhimtal Lake.
You stay three nights in Standard rooms in Nainital, with breakfast included. The drives from Delhi are long, about 8 hours each way, and we start at 8 am and return by evening. The ashram does not take overnight guests, so Nainital is the base, and Kainchi Dham is visited in the morning, when it is calmer.
Dress modestly, and ask before taking photographs at the ashram, as they may not be allowed. The annual fair on 15 June is extremely crowded, with traffic restrictions, so we advise against travelling around that date. Temple and ashram timings change, and we confirm them locally. The cooler months are the most comfortable, but the hills are cold in winter, so carry warm clothes.
Spiritual significance
- Kainchi Dham is the ashram of Neem Karoli Baba, built in 1964, where he spent the last decade of his life.
- The Hanuman temple in a forested valley gives the place its calm, simple character.
- The Naina Devi Temple is a Shakti Peetham, and the Naini Lake and Nainital are named after her.

Itinerary
Day 1: Nainital
Pickup in Delhi at 8 am and a drive of about 8 hours (estimate) to Nainital, with lunch on the way. Check in, and spend the evening at the Naini Lake.
Day 2: Nainital
Kainchi Dham, the ashram of Neem Karoli Baba, in the morning, then back to Nainital for the Naina Devi Temple in the afternoon, and a free evening.
Day 3: Nainital
A quiet day: Bhimtal Lake in the morning, and a free afternoon and evening in Nainital.
Day 4: Delhi
After breakfast and check-out, the drive of about 8 hours (estimate) back to Delhi, with lunch on the way, arriving in the evening.
