Ashtavinayak Yatra from Mumbai

A 5-day Ashtavinayak yatra from Mumbai: all eight Ganesha temples of Maharashtra, with Siddhivinayak in Mumbai

5 days, from Mumbai, from ₹18,999 per person

The Ashtavinayak Yatra from Mumbai is a five-day pilgrimage to the eight self-manifested Ganesha temples of Maharashtra, with Mumbai's famous Siddhivinayak Temple on the first evening. You visit Pali and Mahad on the Konkan side, Theur and Morgaon near Pune, Ranjangaon, Ozar and the cave temple of Lenyadri on the north side, and Siddhatek on the last morning, before the drive back to Mumbai.

You stay four nights in Standard rooms, in Mumbai, near Mahad and twice in Pune, with breakfast included. Arrival is flexible, with the pickup at any time up to about 2 pm, so the first evening is not lost. The temples are grouped by road to save driving, so the order is not the traditional one, which starts and ends at Morgaon. Lenyadri needs a climb of about 300 steps, so please tell us if anyone in your group cannot manage it.

Temple timings change, and some temples do not allow phones inside, so we confirm them locally. Dress modestly, with shoulders and knees covered, as the Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai has refused entry to visitors in revealing clothes. Ganesh Chaturthi and Angarki Chaturthi are extremely crowded.

Spiritual significance

  • The Ashtavinayak are eight self-manifested Ganesha temples of Maharashtra, and the yatra counts as complete only when all eight are visited.
  • Lenyadri is the only cave temple among the eight, in a hill of old Buddhist caves.
  • Siddhatek has the only idol among the eight whose trunk turns to the right.
  • Siddhivinayak in Mumbai is among the most visited temples in India, and a fitting start to the journey.
