Gomti Ghat, Dwarka

Dwarka, Gujarat

Gomti Ghat is the stretch of steps along the Gomti, right below Dwarkadhish Temple, where the river meets the sea. Pilgrims bathe or sprinkle the water here before going up for darshan. In the evening the steps are quiet and good for a slow walk, with the temple spire lit above.

What to see and do

  • Take the holy water or a dip, as pilgrims do before darshan
  • Walk along the steps and see the small shrines on the bank
  • Watch the evening light on the temple spire and the sea
  • Cross by the footbridge (Sudama Setu) to the far side

Ideal for

  • Pilgrims who want the traditional ritual before darshan
  • Photographers and anyone who likes a quiet river-and-sea setting
  • Families and elders, as it is next to the temple

Good to know

  • It is open all day and has no entry fee
  • Keep a close eye on bags and children near the water, and bathe only where it looks safe
  • Wear clothes you do not mind getting wet; there are few changing places, so check locally
  • Early morning and sunset are the best times

Spiritual significance

The Gomti is Dwarka's river, and its ghat is where the ritual of arrival begins: wash, then climb to the temple.

Why it matters

  • The river and the sea: the Gomti meets the Arabian Sea at Dwarka
  • Purification before darshan: a bath or sprinkle is traditional
  • Seen with the temple: the two are visited together
