Chintamani Temple, Theur
Theur, Maharashtra
The Chintamani Temple at Theur is one of the eight Ashtavinayak temples, about 25 km from Pune. The legend says that the sage Kapila had the wish-fulfilling gem Chintamani, and that Ganesha got it back from a greedy king, after which Kapila placed the gem back on Ganesha's neck. Ganesha chose to stay at Theur, and the temple is known as a place that takes away worry. The temple has a tall, plain tower, and the Peshwa family looked after it.
