Chintaman Ganesh Mandir

Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh

Chintaman Ganesh Mandir, south of the old city, is one of the oldest temples in Ujjain, and pilgrims come here to pray to Ganesh as Chintaman, the remover of worries. The idol is regarded as swayambhu. Traditions differ on its age: one source places it in the Paramara era, while another credits the present structure to the Maratha period, but all call it one of Ujjain's oldest shrines.
