Bhramaramba Devi Shakti Peetham, Srisailam
Srisailam, Andhra Pradesh
Bhramaramba Devi is the Goddess of Srisailam, worshipped as a Shakti Peetham in the same temple complex as the Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga. She is counted among the eighteen great Shakti Peethas, and her shrine stands within the walls of the Srisailam temple, near the tall golden gopurams. Pilgrims usually have darshan of both the Lord and the Goddess on the same visit, as the two are worshipped together here.
What to see and do
- Have darshan of Goddess Bhramaramba Devi in her shrine
- See the golden gopuram and the stone temple walls around the shrine
- Combine the visit with darshan of Lord Mallikarjuna in the same complex
- Visit in the evening, when the gopurams are lit
Ideal for
- Devotees of the Goddess who are visiting the Shakti Peethas
- Shiva devotees completing the twelve Jyotirlingas
- Families and elders making a pilgrimage from Hyderabad
Good to know
- The shrine is in the same complex as the Mallikarjuna temple, so one queue and one visit usually covers both, but ask at the temple
- Sources give different temple hours, with breaks for rituals, so check locally
- Dress modestly, and expect queues on weekends and festival days
- Special darshan tickets may be available, so ask at the temple office
- Srisailam is about 215 km from Hyderabad, and one source says private vehicles are not allowed on the forest road at night (about 7 pm to 6 am), so plan to travel in daylight and confirm locally
Spiritual significance
Bhramaramba Devi is the Goddess worshipped beside the Jyotirlinga at Srisailam, which makes this one of the rare places where a Jyotirlinga and a Shakti Peetham stand together. For devotees of the Goddess, Srisailam is a key stop on the Shakti Peetha pilgrimage.
Why it matters
- A Shakti Peetham: counted among the eighteen great Shakti Peethas
- Together with a Jyotirlinga: the Goddess and the Lord are worshipped in one complex
- A hill pilgrimage: set among the Nallamala hills above the Krishna river
