Anjaneri Hill
Trimbakeshwar, Maharashtra
Anjaneri is a hill fort about 20 km from Nashik, near Trimbakeshwar, traditionally believed to be the birthplace of Lord Hanuman. The hill is named after his mother Anjani and has a temple dedicated to her.
What to see and do
- Trek up the hill to the plateau and the Anjani Mata temple
- Enjoy wide views over the Sahyadri hills
- Combine with Trimbakeshwar, which is about 6 km away
Good to know
- It is a half-day trek of about 3 to 4 hours up, so it suits fit visitors, not elders
- The hill is in a forest conservation area: camping is not allowed, and the gate is open in daytime only
- Avoid it in heavy rain; trekkers have been stranded on the plateau in the monsoon
Spiritual significance
In tradition, Anjana Devi gave birth to Hanuman in a cave on this hill.
Why it matters
- Several places are linked with Hanuman's birth, and Anjaneri is the one honoured near Nashik
- A place of strength and devotion for Hanuman bhaktas
- Often visited together with Trimbakeshwar and Brahmagiri
